New Moon in Capricorn & Chiron Direct – December 23, 2022

Friday’s New Moon at 1°33’ Capricorn is the last lunation of the year, as well as a ripe time to set our intentions for the new one.

Capricorn is a fitting sign for setting goals, as the sea goat is both ambitious and dedicated. While one half scales the most daunting of mountains, the other remains spiritually connected to oneness within the cosmic sea. At its core, Capricorn’s mission must have a purpose greater than itself. Otherwise, it may find the summit to be mighty cold and desolate.

A tight square from Jupiter in intrepid Aries only heightens our aspirations. Its ruler, Mars, is still retrograde in Gemini, however, so forward movement may not yet be fully within reach. We are still mending and learning from the past. While energizing, Jupiter’s rashness and optimism could get us into trouble if we attempt too much too soon. Capricorn’s patience, wisdom, and discipline will help us lay the solid foundation upon which we will later build.

On the same day, Chiron stations at 11º56’ Aries after a 5-month retrograde. This is most significant for those with placements around 12º of cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn). In our charts, Chiron is both the wound and the medicine. His call is one of action—acknowledge the imbalance, find the remedy, and then help others do the same. A gifted teacher and guide, he shows us that we cannot heal alone. Pay attention to what aches within your body, heart, mind, and soul.
